With All My Heart

I'm back again for another writing wednesday, and I even have a freebie! The wordart you see above is available below to download and use! You'll just have to read through all my rambling to get it! LOL!

I have been struggling as I make my switch from designer to writer! I am in the habit of sitting down to my computer, multiple times a day to design and plan and pick colors and match papers! I love designing, and it has been an amazing journey over the past two years! I miss it already! However, I have missed my writing, as well. I'm finding that writer's block really just means needing to ask more questions.

Most of my questions this week have been of my main character. I have been trying to get to know her so I can tell her story. The difficult thing is that I have felt her story for the past 5 years, and certain songs will really make her come alive for me. However, there is so much about her I don't know, and that is where the questions come in. Is she a morning person or a night person? What do her toes look like? What does she wear to go out? What is her favorite childhood memory? Perhaps it seems like it would be easy to just make something up, and in essence, I guess that's what I do, as a writer. I get to create each character and make them come alive on paper. But, for me, at least, I feel my characters, so I want their qualities to be true to each of them. I can't just throw together a random number of facts and make it be that person. Just as my genes combined with my husband's genes, aren't the sum total of each of our children. There is so much more, and that is the fun part!

It's also a lot of work, and it takes a lot of thinking time, which can be in short supply when there are children asking for a snack or needing to be changed or ballet lessons to get to on time. I used to do a lot of my question asking in the car, but between someone breathing the other's air and another one chucking a shoe to the backseat, there is little time for character interviews to take place! Maybe I need to hire a babysitter (aka my 12 year old) once or twice a week, so I can escape to one of my favorite places...a soft chair in the middle of a Barnes and Noble! Maybe there I can work on the creation process and the interviewing process and help this story come more alive!

I'll keep you posted!

Now, for some fun designing talk! Brandy had a new release today, and it's such a soft, sweet kit! I loved the colors and textures of her papers. You can pick it up HERE (and its on sale today)
